영어회화 각 레벨별 교육과정

Students cannot understand simple questions probably due to low vocabulary knowledge. An open question is more difficult, but students may be able to comprehend and answer closed-ended questions. Forming simple sentences that contain subject + verb + object/compliment is difficult to do without prompting from the teacher. A self-introduction would be near impossible for a student at this level.
Teachers for the Foundation course need to place emphasis on building pronunciation and comprehending simple questions. During pronunciation lessons, many vocabulary words can be learned starting from short vowel words and expanding to long vowel words. Furthermore, introducing the concept of syllables should be taught to help these students avoid adding that last syllable that Koreans tend to do (finishE), and to help enunciate words where many Chinese students tend to push together (mui = movie).  

The beginner student has a difficult time speaking beyond the simple (subject + verb + object/compliment) sentence structure. They should understand the past tense concept, but they often do not apply this rule in their speaking. Also, it is common for the Korean beginner student to speak with the added-syllable, at the end of many words resulting in poor pronunciation. Their fluency is highly inhibited due to their constant repetition of phrases (I like.. I enjoy, I enjoy, reading the books.). This may be caused by fishing their mind for the correct words, or overly thinking about grammar rules, or just low confidence. This can also be considered as stuttering.
Their comprehension is limited to simple instructions and questions, so it is important that the teacher speak slowly while enunciating each word to help their listening. Furthermore, the teacher needs to place emphasis on building fluency by breaking the stuttering habit. Last, pronunciation practice needs to be considered a priority during this course in order to refrain from adding the extra syllable and to differentiate between long and short vowels.

Students from level 3 have moderately clear and accurate pronunciation. Students display some difficulty with the usual phonemes such as l and r and z but this does not affect comprehension. In this level, students display a moderately high to high level of hesitation as they try to get a grasp on the correct word to use. Fluency and word count is affected by this. The vocabulary used in this level appears accurate but is still quite basic. Verbal phrases are not widely used if used at all. Errors involving countable and uncountable nouns and quantifiers are common. Students are aware of verb tenses but their accurate use of them is inconsistent.
Level 5 is where student ability may tend to contradict itself. Students may be more expressive but less accurate or vice versa. Due to this, it is important that teachers stress both fluency and colloquial vocabulary during this level. Rather than the simple vocabulary of the lower-levels, more idioms, phrasal verbs, and other useful language for conversation should be introduced. Teachers should raise awareness of inappropriate Konglish and force the usage of natural English. Exercises that use colloquial language can be implemented to help this.

Students joining the Advanced Level should be able to speak with native-like fluency and also have an almost native-level understanding of idioms, colloquial expressions and display a strong command of English through near-mastery of all grammatical tenses from simple to perfect and conditional. Students should be able to lead classroom discussions with very minimal prompting by the teacher and also have the ability to correct others and recognize mistakes when forming more complex grammatical sentence structures. Students are also able to respond quickly with minimal hesitation and speak with an uninterrupted conversation flow. Pronunciation should be strong with a minimal use of Konglish or little detection of accent, if any, but any accent present does not obscure meaning and comprehension.
